Faith wanted me to tell you all: "Tell your friends in the computer to wear the bo boats so they won't get their ears hurt" She has been spending a lot of time with me at the shop (she watches movies while I work), and whenever I am about to run a machine she always insists that we both wear out bo boats. I must say that I forgot to do it quite often. A great reminder to everyone to wear their bo boats. AND if your thinking what the heck is a "bo boat" then it is your ear protection. Pic of Faith wearing her bo boats, and me not...shame on me. ![]() |

I have no idea where the name came from.. my daughters 3 year old imagination I guess.. and I'm not wearing them because I only had one pair then (since bought another pair) and she was more important than I! |

That's a super pic John... She's right, of course. They do look a bit like inflatable rubber boats, come to think of it ... She's very beautiful, you must be proud... |

Tell her I wear mine all the time, especially anything to do with dremel, router, or skilsaw. I usually don't bother when sanding or bandsawing. 80 DB's is the magic number they tell us. |
80 DB's is the magic number they tell us.
It's the number for safety--I've read that actual damage begins at 85db. Some shop vacs are louder than that! Save a set of ears near you!!! John...That's a wise daughter you have there! ![]() |

How much does Faith charge for the router lessons she's giving you? I know some other people that could use some too! ![]() My niece about that age was always talking about the carnow. Carnow! Carnow! Carnow! It wasn't until after about 2 months of hearing this that I heard my sister tell my niece, "it's time to get in the car now", that the mystery was revealed! It's probably somewhere! |

John, your daughter is adorable!! Cherish her. One suggestion,, eye protection when operating that dremel and most other shop tools... It only takes one shattered bit. Mike |

I got the DVDs in the mail yesterday.. I love mail. Was up until 1:30 watching the first two voicing DVDs. The second one froze a couple times but I think it might have been my DVD player acting up. Gonna get some take out and watch the other ones tonight. Thanks! |

Oh and for those worried about the eye protection... that was a staged pic.. she was not really there in front of me when I routed it... And I'm almost always wearing my "cool guy" eye protection in the shop....she, however, wears the Bo Boats almost non-stop when she is there... |

John, That puts me in mind of when my older daughter started nursery school. She kept trying to tell me about her "dubby-oh". Come to find out, she was referring to her cubby hole for her coat while at school! ![]() |

I've spent the best part of 40 years as a keen competitive shooter shooting everything from little .22s up to .308 Win target rifles and .38 pistols(until they banned us from pistols ![]() And wear that eye protection too, you want to be able to see to build. Colin |

Mayes, she a smart kid. You could learn a thing or two from her. ![]() I'm a safety nut! But I plan on doing this for a long, long time. Glasses go on the minute I walk in the door and don't come off 'till I'm done for the day. Ears go on for anything louder than sanding. I've got featherboards out the wahzoo and use them for everything. Push sticks, blocks, etc. It's one thing to say" safety first" it's an entirely different thing to practice it. |
I've got my boats on ![]() My son loves to wear his PPE, Cause it makes him look like Darth Vader ![]() Russell, Does he sometimes get his lines confused: "Russell Rose . . . I am your father. No wait a minute... you are my . . . Doh!" ![]() John, She sure looks cute in her Bo Boats. Enjoy them while they are young - children that is. Mine look at me in my Bo Boats and respirator and give me that look that they give to idiots. Mind you, on the plus side I can't hear them whingeing ![]() |
Oh and for those worried about the eye protection... that was a staged pic.. And I'm almost always wearing my "cool guy" eye protection in the shop.
Yeah, I could tell that there was no actual woodworking going on in the photo, but you WERE wearing the "boats", and not wearing glasses, so, frankly, it's manditory for members of our OLF club to speak up. Remember, there's always going to be someone new to woodworking reading these threads. Ear, eye and lung protection are a must! I'm glad to read that you do, in fact, wear those safety glasses! ![]() |
